Review
E11eventh Hour has set out to prove that you can make a killer album that sells without the assistance of a record label or management. The group’s first ep, Trust Fall, sounds like it was made by Metallica’s not-so-evil brothers. It combines hard-hitting rhythms with spiraling, shred-happy solos, but the melody is always king. “Murder Your Memory” is the ep’s first single, a dark tune that deals with the post-breakup phenomenon of not being able to forget your ex. The video was also filmed independently by Iowan Todd Tubbs, following the band’s “quality on a budget” motto. Featuring the eye-catching Tabatha Mathers as the unforgettable ex, the video should prove to have an appeal as universal as the song itself. The members of E11eventh Hour are diverse, with each bringing his own influences and feel to the table. Drummer Dan Wilson and bassist/vocalist Tony Gothard share a love of classic rock and funk, and are likely to launch into a Red Hot Chili Peppers groove during any lull at rehearsal. Guitarist Dan Banker has a heavy-handed playing style firmly rooted in hard rock and heavy metal, and will typically play twice as many notes, twice as fast as necessary. Vocalist/keyboardist Travis Yenney brings his slightly off-kilter sense of humor and love of cheesy ’80s pop to the table, and often finds himself stymied by his band-mates who think they’re too cool to play “Billie Jean” on stage.
